About This Book
A lady does not smoke cheroot. She does not ride astride. She does not fence or attend duels. She does not fire a pistol, and she never gambles at a gentlemen’s club. Lady Calpurnia Hartwell has always followed the rules, rules that have left her unmarried–and more than a little unsatisfied. And so she’s vowed to break the rules and live the life of pleasure she’s been missing. But to dance every dance, to steal a midnight kiss–to do those things, Callie will need a willing partner. Someone who knows everything about rule-breaking. Someone like Gabriel St. John, the Marquess of Ralston–charming and devastatingly handsome, his wicked reputation matched only by his sinful smile. If she’s not careful, she’ll break the most important rule of all–the one that says that pleasure-seekers should never fall hopelessly, desperately in love.

About The Author
Richard Durham
Richard Durham
Author
Richard Durham (1917–1984) was an American writer, journalist, and radio dramatist known for his influential work in African American media and storytelling. Born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago, Durham became an important voice in highlighting Black history and social issues through journalism and broadcasting.

He is best remembered for creating and writing the groundbreaking radio series *Destination Freedom*, which aired in the late 1940s. The program dramatized the lives of prominent African Americans and addressed themes of racial equality, justice, and achievement. Through powerful scripts and compelling narratives, Durham helped bring overlooked historical figures and contemporary issues to a wide audience.

In addition to radio, Durham worked as a newspaper columnist and foreign correspondent, reporting from Africa and the Caribbean. His writing often focused on civil rights, politics, and cultural identity. Durham’s contributions to media and literature played a significant role in promoting representation and social awareness in mid-20th-century America.
